The ceiling's leaking at work. I was just down on my hands and knees mopping up the puddle with a dishcloth. Some bugger has taken the mop. At least this rain is falling on the dam.

Every single Doctor Who 9 episode

Monday, June 27th, 2005

Belinda invited me to a Doctor Who club meet, my first, where they played every single episode of the Doctor Who 9 series that hadn't yet screened on Australian television. Everything from "The Long Game" to "The Parting of the Ways". What can I say, it rocked. I watch very little ...

The winter solstice happens today. Roll on summer.

Cosmos 1

Tuesday, June 21st, 2005

If all goes well, the solar sail space craft, Cosmos 1, will be orbiting Earth and visible from the ground this weekend. I'll have to look out for it. What an amazing thought that there will finally be a solar sail space craft in orbit. They've been in science fiction for ...

Cat with opposable thumbs

Monday, June 20th, 2005

Here's a cat, Queenie, who was born with opposable thumbs. She can pick things up in her 'hands'. I've never seen a polydactyl cat before. Apparently they're common in America, due to the fact that sailors considered them lucky. I guess their big feet made hanging onto the deck much easier.

UNIT Website

Sunday, June 19th, 2005

I'm laughing my head off. Belinda told me that the UNIT site that appears on the "World War III" Dr Who episode last night is real. I just went there and used the password "buffalo", which was mentioned in the episode. It works! I guided a missile around, just like ...

Plot bunny

Sunday, June 19th, 2005

Just had a plot bunny bite me and force me to write fiction. Ah, the joys of not being at uni. I can write! I'm using the writing software, Writer's Cafe, that Belinda told me about. I started out with Word, but I found my ideas weren't flowing in order, and ...

Lisa Gerrard

Friday, June 17th, 2005

Just realised that Lisa Gerrard is playing the Sydney Opera House tonight. It's sold out. Damn. Lisa Gerrard is an Oscar-winning composer. She wrote (and performed I expect) the scores of Gladiator, Whale Rider, Tears of the Sun, Ali and other movies. She also had a band, Dead Can Dance, which ...

Dr Who ebooks

Thursday, June 16th, 2005

Belinda told me about the Dr Who books that are available free online. Unfortunately, they seem to have been scanned and designed by someone unfamiliar with screen readability. The font choice is poor, and the wrong size. The lack of a margin means you have to run your eyes back and ...

Douglas Wood rescued

Wednesday, June 15th, 2005

Douglas Wood has been rescued. He has got to be the luckiest Australian alive. I thought he was doomed, like so many of the other hostages in Iraq. Congrats to Sheikh Taj Aldin Alhilali for all the good work.

Nan has only a few months to live

Tuesday, June 14th, 2005

Nan had the result of her scan back today. It doesn't look good. The doctor says she's only got a few months to live.

Fallen out

Tuesday, June 14th, 2005

Well, that didn't take long. I woke up this morning and found one of my new earrings had fallen out. I looked around but I could only find the back. I'll keep looking tonight.

Dr Who on stage

Monday, June 13th, 2005

I've been invited to see Dr Who on stage. Sounds like fun.

Monday, June 13th, 2005

Got a matching belly button barbel and earrings in silver and mother of pearl. The diamond barbel that Heidi got me for my birthday broke on Friday, so it was time for a new set.
