One gig of memory

Tuesday, May 31st, 2005

Just got a gig of extra RAM for my iBook. Now it's working about 3 times faster than it did with 250meg of RAM. Also got around to all the things I meant to do this holiday - got a haircut (a foot off, not that anyone will notice), went to ...

Little Bugger #2 – Ladybird in Queensland

Sunday, May 29th, 2005

My travel bug Little Bugger #2 - Ladybird has been taken from Victoria to Queensland. A hop over over 840 miles. I think I should attach a travel bug dog tag to myself and go and sit in a geocache. It seems to be the easiest way to travel! ;-)

Schapelle Corby

Friday, May 27th, 2005

So Schapelle Corby has been found guilty and sentenced to 20 years in jail. The poor thing. I certainly wouldn't set foot in Indonesia after this. I think a lot of the Aussie emotion surrounding this case is the fact that it could have been any one of us sitting ...

Jenolan Caves

Friday, May 27th, 2005

Spent yesterday at Jenolan Caves. Dad decided to come along at the last minute – he hadn’t seen limestone caves before. The trip took three and a half hours! Yes it was rush hour, but geez, Jenolan Caves are a long way away. If I hadn’t had someone to share the ...

Second day of holiday

Tuesday, May 24th, 2005

This is the first holiday I've had in ages and at the moment I'm catching up on all the chores I've needed to do for ages. Cleaning mostly, though I'm still enjoying myself. I've been going out for lunch everyday. I hope to have finished my chores by tomorrow. ...

Server move

Friday, May 20th, 2005

I've just moved my new sites to another server. I'm currently trying to work out if the domain name has propagated yet. I get the feeling it has.

I'm working on a site for the Awu-Laya people of Cape York in northern Australia. It's part of a university assignment.

The last bikini

Monday, May 16th, 2005

I just washed and hung up the final bikini of the season and I put on my warmest PJs. It’s officially winter now, as far as I’m concerned. Ouch, I scalded myself while making polenta tonight. I always burn myself on polenta. It’s like cooking molten lava, and like real molten ...

Kingdom of Heaven and Tori Amos

Sunday, May 15th, 2005

Went to two things yesterday, one that gave me more than I expected and one that gave me less. The experience that gave me more was the Kingdom of Heaven movie. I’d heard it was pretty much a vehicle for Orlando Bloom, who was supposed to not act very well, but ...

Dashboard

Friday, May 13th, 2005

I’m having fun with OSX Tiger’s Dashboard widgets. There are free downloadable widgets available for almost anything. It reminds me of 1996, when the Internet was a free, safe supermarket of every kind of software imaginable. In the late 90s, I downloaded a screensaver of animated macaroni dancing the Macarena. I ...

Another reason Windows sucks

Friday, May 13th, 2005

I was just in the middle of something at work, when the Live Update program popped up. I clicked on OK to download updates, but then Live Update produced an ominous popup - "Live Update requires that you restart your computer". Hey, wait a minute Live Update! The popup only ...

Startups

Thursday, May 12th, 2005

From PaulGraham.com: The math is brutal. While perhaps 9 out of 10 startups fail, the one that succeeds will pay the founders more than 10 times what they would have made in an ordinary job. [2] That's the sense in which startups pay better "on average." Remember that. If you start a ...

Comments

Thursday, May 12th, 2005

Just looked at the comments I needed to moderate. I haven't done that for a while - Word Press 1.2 made comments moderation an unpleasant experience. 1.2 was extremely vulnerable to spammers and comments moderation was a process of deleting hundreds of blackjack and poker advertisements. But now I’m using Word ...

Interesting

Thursday, May 12th, 2005

From The Sydney Morning Herald: Corby flew out the same day May 12, 2005 The day police allege a Sydney drug ring brought almost 10 kilograms of cocaine through Sydney Airport with the help of corrupt baggage handlers is the same day Schapelle Corby flew to Bali from the same airport. Corby, who faces ...

Daylight saving

Thursday, May 12th, 2005

Just realised, I didn't reset this blog's time after daylight saving finished. Every post since then has the time wrong by an hour. I really can't be bothered to change the times on all those posts...

Spam Names #11

Thursday, May 12th, 2005

Apparently a: Hygiene E. Braiding wants my ANZ bank details. Somehow I don't think many people are going to fall for this one.
