Backing Up

Tuesday, August 16th, 2005

I'm having a long overdue backup session with my new external 160 gig hard drive. I've got to get all my music, all my movies, all my e-mails and all my server backups onto something that doesn't travel around with me.

ISP down

Wednesday, July 20th, 2005

My ISP was down for a few hours this morning. Thank goodness this is a rare event.

Tuesday, July 12th, 2005

I've relaunched Lexicon, with a new URL because the original domain name,, is no longer editable. Control of the domain was sent to a French domain name provider, which doesn’t respond to my e-mails. The new Lexicon is running on the latest, release version of Fabulister. I plan to release ...

Tuesday, June 7th, 2005

Still no word about my domain name. What if I can't point it to my new account? I may have point another of my domains to the new account and redirect the traffic...

I just tried to point to the new server but found I couldn't log into my domain name account. I hope it's just transferred somewhere else...

High distinction

Friday, May 6th, 2005

Got my first post grad assignment from Digital Information and Interaction Design back today. Wasn't expecting too much, so I was surprised when the lecturer gave me a quick smile when she handed me my marked assignment. I looked down at my assignment and saw I'd received a high distinction, 27 ...

iPod cast

Thursday, April 14th, 2005

When the Fabulister programming is under control, I would really like to hire actors to read Lexicon stories so people can download them and put them on their iPods. Yes, I'm a geek! ;-)

Lexicon registration problems

Wednesday, April 13th, 2005

Lexicon registration problems Wednesday 13th April - I've just realised that every single e-mail that people have sent via the Lexicon contact form since OCTOBER 2004 were sent to the wrong place. ::jaw drop:: I just happened to log into my old, supposedly unused, e-mail account, and hundreds of registration and ...

MySQL table repair

Saturday, March 5th, 2005

Just discovered an unforeseen advantage to having the Fabulister programming work done. Whirix pointed out that the database backup of Lexicon I had sent them was incomplete missing 5 tables including the all important users table. Ive been backing up for months using the phpMyAdmin export feature and it ...

Sunk cost fallacy

Friday, December 17th, 2004

From Skepdic: the sunk-cost fallacy (throwing good money after bad) When one makes a hopeless investment, one sometimes reasons: I cant stop now, otherwise what Ive invested so far will be lost. This is true, of course, but irrelevant to whether one should continue to invest in the project. Everything one has invested ...

Blogging in the kitchen

Sunday, October 31st, 2004

So here I am blogging in the kitchen with my new iBook and Airport Express wireless network. My boyfriend was here yesterday setting it all up. I spent hours on Friday night trying to get the network to work but it only took him 2 minutes to get it working when ...

Fabulister Changes

Wednesday, September 22nd, 2004

I've been struggling to write a full list of the changes and bug fixes required for Fabulister. The list is in danger of being longer than the original list of features!

Killer Search Engines

Wednesday, September 8th, 2004

The server has been most unstable of late. Dirge and Spud managed to work out why, last night. Lexicon is getting bombarded with search engine spider requests. Several a second. The server load goes up to ridiculous levels and then the server freezes. Inktomi and Google - you have a lot of ...

Monday, September 6th, 2004

I had a query about photocomics on Lexicon today, so I've made a Gallery category so they can be submitted.

iMac and Server Upgrades

Thursday, September 2nd, 2004

The new G5 iMac looks plainer than the previous 'iLamp' model (which I thought was cute). I wasn't impressed by the new iMac at first but it's growing on me. It will certainly go with my iPod, something Apple clearly had in mind, 'cos the introductory video was keen to ...

New Watch

Sunday, August 29th, 2004

It rained today which put a damper on my plans to go beach hiking. So my boyfriend and I hiked Warringah Mall instead. It was fun. I got a new watch to replace the one I lost in the surf. This watch has such a strong clasp I can barely take it ...

Out of the Top 25

Saturday, August 28th, 2004

My Lexicon submission, an essay called Transformers Fanfic, has finally dropped out of the Top 25 after a year, maybe a year and a half. Think I'll cry now! ;-(

Most hits ever!

Wednesday, August 18th, 2004

Lexicon had 26,303 hits yesterday. Best day it's ever had!

Opening Fabulister Test Site

Friday, August 13th, 2004

I've been having mood swings about Fabulister from panic attacks that it wil never be ready to feeling willing to give it a test run as the Lexicon site. I'm in one of my positive moods right now, so I'll give it a go tonight. Chapter uploading and most of the ...
