Structure

Sunday, May 25th, 2008

Here's a new theme called Structure. I happened to glance at the Dashboard of my blog and saw it advertised. Very elegant. No coding required. I just activated some widgets and it's working. It's too good to be true. It's probably stealing my private data or something. ;-)

First post on Hostgator

Saturday, May 17th, 2008

As Diane's web space on Dreamhost wasn't letting me FTP, I've moved all my sites to Hostgator, which I chose after seeing which web hosting company got the best reviews. No real complaints so far, though my 91 meg database table file took two goes to upload. I'm currently uploading a ...

Even WordPress themes contain spam now

Sunday, May 11th, 2008

I just used the automatic Wordpress update plugin to upgrade to Wordpress 2.5 - and found that I'd not only lost all my tags, but my theme Big Blue 0.1 was no longer working. I upgraded to Big Blue 1.0 and was shocked to see that the creator or someone ...

Big Blue

Friday, October 12th, 2007

Just changed Charlotte's Web over to a theme called Big Blue 01. It has widgets (which I setup for the theme dotdotdot yesterday) and a pleasant, easy-to-read balance between space and words. It also marks a blogging change. I'm not bothering with categories anymore. It's tags all the way ...

Cargo Ship Originally uploaded by travellingcharl. I've just started posting my photographs to Flickr. Flickr, if you haven't heard of it, is a fantastic photography blog site full of gorgeous photos from around the world, with an amazing amount of features (you ...

Hi Jaci!

Thursday, April 19th, 2007

Thanks for the phone call. I just checked to see if Wordpress allows PDF uploading and it does. I recommend checking out the Wordpress theme viewer, to see if there are any you fancy.

Akismet

Friday, March 23rd, 2007

Activated Akismet, a comments spam plugin, on this blog. So far, it's deleted 26 spam. I'm pretty pleased so far, though it was a bit annoying having to sign up at Wordpress.com for an API. I don't like giving out my details - even if they're mostly faked! ;-)

WordPress Upgrade

Thursday, March 22nd, 2007

Had an alarming moment while upgrading Wordpress just then. I clicked on the upgrade link and got an error message. I replaced the file where the error message was, and after that, the upgrade went without a hitch. My FTP program was very slow and kept timing out during the ...

Google Adsense

Saturday, November 26th, 2005

I applied for Google Adsense a few days ago and I got it this morning. I had some ads up on my site within 5 minutes. I was able to choose colours that went with the rest of my site. I approve of the ads that Google has selected. They're ...

Gila

Wednesday, November 23rd, 2005

I'm trying a new theme called Gila, which is flexible width and always fills the screen. I should be able to include more images, such as my geocaching logo, that I can't with the Identification Band The Triplets - boyish style (right-sided theme) I was using before. Gila will need a ...

Posting from WordPress Dash Widget

Friday, August 19th, 2005

Just download and trying out the new WordPress Dashboard widget for OSX Tiger. Let's see if it works! [Hits Publish] Edit: Yes, it works, but it doesn't allow me to choose a category.

Triplets Identification Band and Hierarchical Categories

Tuesday, June 7th, 2005

Just switched WordPress theme to Triplets Identification Band, a three-column, right aligned theme. I would like to put one of my geocaching images into the header, as it's a rather dull blue band. I also found a small code change that puts my categories into hierarchical order and shows how many ...

Server move

Friday, May 20th, 2005

I've just moved my new sites to another server. I'm currently trying to work out if the domain name has propagated yet. I get the feeling it has.

Comments

Thursday, May 12th, 2005

Just looked at the comments I needed to moderate. I haven't done that for a while - Word Press 1.2 made comments moderation an unpleasant experience. 1.2 was extremely vulnerable to spammers and comments moderation was a process of deleting hundreds of blackjack and poker advertisements. But now I’m using Word ...

DonkieQuote

Tuesday, May 10th, 2005

Just installed DonkieQuote, a random quote generator, which has a database table of its own.

Fabulister.com

Wednesday, May 4th, 2005

Yesterday and today, I updated the software running Fabulister.com from Word Press 1.2 to Word Press 1.5. That should reduce the amount of comments spam I've been getting. I would be happy never to see the words "online casino" again. Ditto for "poker" and "blackjack". For Fabulister.com, I'm using a theme ...

Belevolence

Monday, April 18th, 2005

Although I liked the Plain Vanilla Word Press theme, the banner wasn't displaying properly and the links subcategories were all showing up as 'Links'. I've switched to a theme called Benevolence, which has an image showing...wheat grass sprouts. I don't know what the artist was thinking of. What do ...

Missing image

Monday, April 18th, 2005

The banner image on this blog isn't visible in IE 6.0. At least, I can't see it, everyone else can. Weird...

Plain Vanilla

Friday, April 15th, 2005

The empty white box should actually have an image of a mountain inside. It's visible inside my network when I enter my network's URL. There must be something wrong with its permissions or coding. I'll have to get my boyfriend on the phone when he gets home, and fiddle with ...

Word Press 1.5

Friday, April 15th, 2005

I upgraded to Word Press 1.5. Outside the network, it took about 10 seconds to install, not counting upload times. I've uploaded a theme called 'Plain Vanilla'. It has an empty, white box with dotted outline but I like the layout of the text. I want to put an image into ...
