I've relaunched Lexicon, with a new URL because the original domain name,, is no longer editable. Control of the domain was sent to a French domain name provider, which doesn’t respond to my e-mails. The new Lexicon is running on the latest, release version of Fabulister. I plan to release ...

From The math is brutal. While perhaps 9 out of 10 startups fail, the one that succeeds will pay the founders more than 10 times what they would have made in an ordinary job. [2] That's the sense in which startups pay better "on average." Remember that. If you start a ...

High distinction

Friday, May 6th, 2005

Got my first post grad assignment from Digital Information and Interaction Design back today. Wasn't expecting too much, so I was surprised when the lecturer gave me a quick smile when she handed me my marked assignment. I looked down at my assignment and saw I'd received a high distinction, 27 ...

Yesterday and today, I updated the software running from Word Press 1.2 to Word Press 1.5. That should reduce the amount of comments spam I've been getting. I would be happy never to see the words "online casino" again. Ditto for "poker" and "blackjack". For, I'm using a theme ...

iPod cast

Thursday, April 14th, 2005

When the Fabulister programming is under control, I would really like to hire actors to read Lexicon stories so people can download them and put them on their iPods. Yes, I'm a geek! ;-)

I'm testing the beta version of the new Fabulister. So far I'm pleased with it. There are a few bugs and a way to go yet before it can be released, but it's already working better than the old version.

MySQL table repair

Saturday, March 5th, 2005

Just discovered an unforeseen advantage to having the Fabulister programming work done. Whirix pointed out that the database backup of Lexicon I had sent them was incomplete missing 5 tables including the all important users table. Ive been backing up for months using the phpMyAdmin export feature and it ...

Word Press 1.5

Wednesday, March 2nd, 2005

Just tried, and failed, to install Word Press 1.5. I lost altogether for a short time and had to install the Fabulister blog files. Oh well, here goes for a second try...

Whirix chosen

Tuesday, February 22nd, 2005

I've accepted Whirix's bid to program Fabulister. I noticed that another web design company, this time based in New York, has also made a bid. But a lot of their reviews have been removed, which seems suspicious. Whirix has a slightly higher rating, so I went with them.

I'm currently sorting out the Fabulister contract between myself and Whirix.

Automatic zip files

Thursday, February 17th, 2005

I needed to zip my Fabulister files so I could send them to Whirix. A quick call to my Mac expert boyfriend and I found out something useful. There's no need to download an equivalent of Winzip for OSX. It's built in. Just select a file in the Finder, right click ...

Not a good start

Wednesday, February 16th, 2005

Just had my first communication with Whirix and they said search could not be implemented in text fields in MySQL databases and they wanted to use 3rd party software for searching text fields instead. I showed them the search submission body feature, in the current version of Lexicon, which searches text ...

Nothing happened

Wednesday, February 16th, 2005

My boyfriend asked what I'd been up to today and I said nothing happened, which is about right. Went to the beach at lunchtime but that's all. It was cooler today. Feels like summer is on the way out, though surely we've got a month or two of beach weather yet. Whirix ...

Looks like I'm going with Whirix for the Fabulister programming. I hope it all works out better than last time.

Hiking boots

Monday, January 3rd, 2005

Found a pair of waterproof hiking boots in a nearby camping store that would be just perfect for my hikes. They're really comfortable and they'd protect my feet. Can't afford them this month as I'm getting Fabulister done. ;-)

I really ought to choose a Fabulister programmer. Can't choose...too lazy...

Sunk cost fallacy

Friday, December 17th, 2004

From Skepdic: the sunk-cost fallacy (throwing good money after bad) When one makes a hopeless investment, one sometimes reasons: I cant stop now, otherwise what Ive invested so far will be lost. This is true, of course, but irrelevant to whether one should continue to invest in the project. Everything one has invested ...

I'm auctioning the Fabulister fix on Let's hope the bid are better quality than

Thursday, November 25th, 2004

I'm very disappointed in the quality of programmers I'm getting bid from at Few of them have previous work, and if they do have previous work, it's rubbish. They all want thousands of dollars. This is not good.

Fabulister Fixes

Friday, November 19th, 2004

I sent my 14 page Word document of Fabulister changes to today. Fingers crossed that it will turn out OK. I notice Unidian gave me 10 out of 10 as a customer.
