Spotted a waterspout on the way home yesterday, an intense thin trunk against the darkness of its storm cloud. I only had my tiny camera phone with me, so the best photo I got was taken several minutes after I'd spotted it, when it had already roped out and only ...

Here's a fascinating site which shows how the world will look if sea levels rise.
Kinda puts the cost of lowering carbon emissions into perspective, doesn't it? All those multi-million dollar seaside properties - underwater.

Got my hands on some Blanche de Namur, a beer from Belgium, brewed with orange peel and coriander. A nice drop - cloudy, with a light, fragrant taste and very little fizz. Despite the orange peel, this beer has very little bitterness. It's a refreshing beer for a hot (34 ...

Went to the pub with the sales team last night, a very smoky pub call The Queen in Hammersmith. Had a couple of Coronas bought for me and had a good chat with everyone. Most people only started recently, like me.
Today I'm off shopping for a business suit. Everyone ...

London is in the middle of the most serious drought in over a decade, maybe one hundred years, and today tough water restrictions were announced. You can no longer wash your car, water your garden, or fill your fountain or swimming pool.
I'm finding the whole thing fairly laughable. Heavy dark ...

It reached 25 degrees C in London today. It wasn't like a 25 degree day in Sydney, it seemed much hotter. The buses and the trains still had their heating on - I don't think they can actually turn it off - so it was more like 30 degrees ...

I was supposed to go on a 4 day hiking and geocaching trip today with c.j.b. but we moved the trip to next week, as it was forecast to rain all this week.
Imagine my fury when today was beautiful and sunny.
But apparently it was only sunny near the coast. c.j.b. ...

From News.com.au:
Early bushfire season warning
ON the last day of the warmest winter on record, Sydney had an ominous preview of the bushfire season that lies ahead.
Gale-force winds whipped a small grass fire at Menangle, to the southwest, into a 30m-high fireball over the Hume Highway - one of several outbreaks ...

It was supposed to be 25 degrees today, so I brought my towel and bikini to work, but it was cloudy at lunchtime so I didn't swim.

It's warmer today. I don't need my big coat to walk outside and the breeze feels warm.
We're finally coming out of winter.

Woke up freezing, yesterday. I need a heavy coat and a jumper before I can bear to take the dogs for a walk at night. It doesn't get colder than this in Sydney.
And yet it's nearly as cold in London right now, but it's mid Summer over there.

I went to an outdoor cafe for lunch today. The sun was shining brightly, the sky was blue and the temperature was summery, even though it was winter.
I drank my cappuccino and reflected that I was living on the bright side of the worst drought in recorded history.
